replace alternator on a 1999 ford escort?

my radio quit working and the gas gauge light and seatbelt lights all came on the dash. the speedometer gauge went to 0 while driving and once I stopped the car went dead. Is this my alternator. My car is a 1999 ford escort

It seems you lost power. This is because
1: your battery is badly connected
2: your alternator, as you suspected
check your battery connections before you begin.
try to start the car using another car battery. does anything work at all?
