hedge trimmer out of adjustment?

had to loosen the blade up to remove a stick--replaced it and now it is clacking and sticking--what next--it is an old but good disston D 99 trimmer

Most of the blades are held together with a bolt and nut. My guess is that you have tighened up the nut too much and the baldes are not free enough to run. Suggest you back off gently Perhaps count the number of exposed treads in order to get a uniform pressure over the lenght of the blade. And remember to oil the blades.
