Sorry for the stupid question but cars seem to become more difficult to service by the day. I bought this VW Golf 1.6 Mach second hand and it needs to have its air filter and sparkplugs changed but I cannot open the plastic cover that hides the engine. There must be a catch somwhere but I could not find it. Or probably I need some special tool that only dealers have. Can anyone help please.

I did push and pull quite vigourously and even used a big screwdriver as a lever in an attempt to prise it, but no luck.

a lot of these are just push fit with small rubber mounts,try giving it a wee tug vertically
