This is a known problem, I'm having similar with my 1998 first edition model. The door switch has failed, which burns out the motor control, a $200 board I'm informed. There is a class-action suit in progress that provides a free repair, (because a $20 switch ruins a $200 board, etc) or a coupon for up to $400 or so off a new neptune. You should have gotten a notice if you registered your machine. Unfortunately, they will not reimburse for repairs until Maytag's appeal of the lawsuit runs through the courts, and then if you paid yourself, you won't get anything. This resolution could be anytime this year I'm told. Other words, you're left holding the bag; they told me I have to wait or I will get nothing. Meanwhile, no washer. This is an inherent design flaw, and if you fix it, it might reoccur. The third party claims administration phone# is: 1-866-288-0515 - Pick option 4, then option 26 to leave your number for call back. I am frustrated beyond belief by the whole deal, it leaves customers holding the bag. My next move is Kitchen Aid. I don't know how to unlock your washer.
