One corner of my 8GB SD Card has broken off, a very small part and the photos cannot be recovered on the pc. The rest of the card seems undamaged. Can it be repaired as I have some important pics on the card ?

Chances are that the card is done. The entire inside of the SD card is a circuit board. even if a corner is broken, the traces on the board are affected. If it's the corner by the gold contacts then it may be possible -- depends on how badly damamged the board is. Make sure that the plastic is flat so that it fits well in the card reader.
