If it will kickstart, but the leccy foot doesn't work, make sure the brake light comes on with both front and rear brake light switches as these also function as ignition cut out switches. The switches tend to wear badly on the plungers and if the brake light don't come on you will probably have to replace. One or other of the brake lights MUST be operate before the starter will work. If these are OK, check the starter itself by use of a jumper pack or another battery and jump leads. Leave the ignition switched OFF. Negative lead to a good earth like the kickstart, touch the positive directly to the terminal on the motor, careful, not a lot of room in there, if the starter don't turn, it's probably goosed. Replace.
