It sounds like the pump has either failed or more likely clogged up with fluff and rubbish from the wash. Try asking someone with good lung power to blow backwards down the waste water pipe. Once drained it will need to be cleaned properly. Sometimes there is a filter which traps the debris and if not cleaned regularly blocks the pump.
