1. Battery check. Must be greater than 11Vdc after 15 holes for most motor controllers to work.
2. Motor control PCB board. Overheating.! no this would fail to drive the motor earlier in the round
3. Gearbox overheating. No! Unless wheel axles, clutches, wheels etc: are damaged causing high torque through gearbox and hence extra demand on battery power to move the trolley. (Extra battery power will reduce the trolley operating range ) Without power rotate the wheels in the forward direction to see if there is a high torque for the motor to overcome. If very difficult to rotate, could be gearbox damage, or motor coupling damage.
4. My guess is though It has to be the battery. get it rechecked properly. 4Ahr discharge over 4.5 hours. Vbat should be >11Vdc.
