This problem is a bit more serious than you think. It has been caused by a fault on the motor which consequently blows the track on the printed circuit board (mounted behind the console). You will definately need a new circuit board & some new motor brushes, sometimes the motor needs renewing when this happens, so worse case scenario is new motor as well. I wouldn't know for sure without looking.
