How can I fix my cordless home so that I get a dial tone ? ?

July 7, 2010

Gentlemen:

I have a Sony cordless phone, Model No. SPP-Q100 and have had it for many years. It has been very reliable and I've never had any problems with it, except that I DO have to replace the battery once every couple of years. The battery is $15. I recently bought a battery and inserted it into the telephone but the phone does not give me a dial tone. The phone is connected to my land line phone at home. It is properly connected to the wall outlet. When I place the phone in the charging cradle, the power is on, the charging light is on, yet after the phone with the new battery has charged overnight, I still cannot hear a dial tone. Why is that? I've always been able to make it work before. I have cleaned the contacts to the phone and the charging cradle, but still I cannot get the phone to function. Is it possible that the new battery sold to me is faulty? What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can give me. Jo Partida
