VW Golf Mk5 passenger door locked?

Hi i cant open the passenger door on My golf due to the locking mecahnism failing. I have a spare but cannot now open the door to split the skin to get to the failed lock. Any ideas on how to open the stuck door. Either from inside or outside? Thanks.
