I've used a descaling chemical - is my kettle ruined?

I used a chemical to descale my kettle. Now it seems to leak. Have I ruined it? I think I have.

The best way to descale a kettle is by boiling the water inside it and then puting lemon juice. Leave this in the kettle for atleast an hour then rinse out several times. The difference should be noticeable

You've answered your own question I think. Next time use ordinary Malt Vinegar. It will do the job just as well, is cheaper and will not damage your kettle.
