Clutch failure and/or a failed brush roller bearing, usually occompanied by a loud ratcheting noise. We see alot of these. If you still have the warrenty in effect for your Dyson, take it to a Dyson repair center. If not, call around to your local vac repair shops and ask if they can replace the clutch. Expect a repair cost of at least 75 dollars. The replacement process is a bit involved for a person who hasn't done it before, and there are special Dyson tools needed to do it properly.
