Citroen Xsara - Is it safe to drive with warning light showing?

My Citroen Xsara 2002 model has warning light displayed. The book says could be either ignition, fuel injection or pollution control fault (depending on Country) (Australia in this case) There is nothing apparent showing running wise. My nearest dealer with diagnostic machines compatible for Citroen is over a three hour drive away. With nothing apparent wrong, is it safe to drive the car and ignore the light?

This would not normally be a problem in the short term, but left for any extended length of time, well it's really anyones guess! The problem may only be a minor one, or it could be more serious. You really need to have the fault codes read. You don't need to take it to the main dealer for this, in fact you could probably do it yourself with a fault code reader. Not sure about the availability of these in australia, but have a look on E Bay if you can't get one locally.
