I've had the same problem.
Pete found the good answer, the problem comes fom the temperature sensor, it's very easy to change at the base of the drum. You can find it at http://eshop.euras.com/detailsseite.asp?pic=8037517
part number is 8037517. (the part number of the Hoover vision 1600 AAA is 31138159, in case you don't find it cause it's pretty hard to get)

Just wanted to say thanks to Pete for his answer in June 2005. Got the error code 5 a few weeks ago. Ordered the new part (£9). Easily fitted , as you say in the base of the drum, and problem solved. Brilliant! Cheers.

Hi, I konw it's a year later, but someone might find it useful. Error code 5 means the temperature sensor (in the base of the drum) has failed.

My machine is also showing error 5 when i try to set a programme. I have had the hoover engineers out, but none of them know what error 5 means! If anyone finds out could they let me know. Thankyou.

I`m not sure but I think it means your pump is blocked or there is a problem with your pressure switch. I`m in a similar situation and I`m sorry I don`t know how to fix it but if I find out I`ll let you know!
