how do you take a rear coil off a vauxhall astra mk4 ?

can you slacken the shock absorber off to remove the spring without clamps

think you can jack up lower arm, first support chassis with stands, jack up lower arm and release shock abs bolt and lower arm, quite tight to remove but you should manage, fit spring and jack up arm and refit bolt, dont need spring compressors for these.

DO NOT try to take the shocks off without first using spring clamps to clamp the springs tight, then you can take the shocks off to remove springs.
IT IS DANGEROUS TO TAKE SPRINGS OFF WITHOUT CLAMPING THEM FIRST. you can get clamps from motor factors quiet cheaply
