I have a problem with all the electrical componants on my 99 Micra tailgate?

Over the last few months i have noticed that the electrical componants (Rear wiper, Heated rear window, Rear wiper, Third brake light and number plate lights) Have started to work intermitantly or stop working all together. I am wondering now, after reading a similar problem, is there a break (or several breaks) in the wiring? If so how easy is it to repair or replace?

Thanks to all who answered my question, it was the wiring after all. I striped back the rubber boot at the hinge to find 6 of the 7 wires where broken. I have now re-connected all the wires and the only thing which now doesn't work is the heated rear window (not that I really need that anyway). Much appreciate your answers and will bear them in mind should the problem arise again.

if like some other manufacturers nissan may rely on tailgate hinges for earth connection, which as car gets older becomes a problem.you will need to run a new earth wire from tailgate itself to main body and there should be some earth point near rear lights to connect to, therefore by-passing hinges.

What you say suggests a poor connection in the earth bond between tailgate and vehicle bodywork - find it - clean it bright & shiny - do it up tightly and smear it with petroleum grease.
