Ford Focus 1.6 speedo needle eratic?

My Focus 1.6 petrol 2002 has a problem!
While driving/idling the speedo hand flutters eratically and also looses power when this happens. I've insulated the cyl.head sensor cable from spark plug leads with no imrovement.Any ideas
