exhaust emissions warning light is on?

exhaust emission light is on my dashboard.car is vw polo 2001. 45k miles. avg 200 miles week in built up areas. what should I expect to be wrong so I know what to expect at garage? I drive over a lot of ramps so wondered would that have anything to do with it.

My 02 VW Polo had the same problem @36k miles (was it the EPC light that came on?), but mine it was intermittent. My local garage said VW needed to do the work.

VW charged me for 1 and a half hours labour to find out it was the emissions sensor that needed replacing - total bill £437 APPROX WITH VAT. However, I had to return the car to them again as the light came on again, but this was put down to a new 'faulty' sensor (sounds like a design fault too me).

Good luck, maybe it would be worth contacting a local VW specialist rather than a proper franchise - the service I got was well below par all in all anyway.

the emmissions light is on maybe because the emmissions valve is not working correctly you should try this new product on the market called CATACLEAN you can get it from a good motorfactors or go on line i think its www.CATACLEAN.co.uk
this will clean every part of your fuel system including the emmissions[lambarder valve] and also if a catalitic convertor is fitted it will clean that good luck
