Vauxhall Zafira 2003 2.0L turbo diesel running fault?

After a mile or so from cold, the electronic cooling symbol light comes on along with the engine fault light, power drops and the engine rattles loudly. The rev counter also drops to zero even though the engine is running (speedometer still works though). The battery and alternator seem okay. i'm totally baffled - any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I had the exact same problem as you discribed.... what it was,was the vacuum senser ( think thats what you call it) for the turbo. All I can tell you where it's located.. Looking at the engine from front of car, behind the airbox under the bulkhead you will see black or grey valve with tubes coming from it. That was my problem,,,, the car would loose power, rev counter drop to zero, engine sounded like a bag of spanners and engine/coolant light came on. Once renewed NO MORE PROBLEMS, but it cost me about £70 for the part if I remember...
Hope this helps

These are the results from the code reader:

P0380 Pending Glow Plug/Heater Circuit A Malfunction
P0335 Pending Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction
P0335 Stored Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction
P0340 Stored Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
P0335 Pending Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction
P1222 Stored Fuel injection pump - malfunction

I think I'll change the crankshaft sensor first (presumably this also provides tacho pulses) and then get another code reading to see the effect of doing this.

Thanks for replying Wickham. I've ordered a fault code reader from Gendam which suits this model. I'll keep you informed.

think the first step would be to get a code reader onto the car for a look at faults stored
