Briggs & Stratton 6.5 Intek Magneto short?

My chipper shredder stopped suddenly while not under load. I tested and found no spark. Then I disconnected the wires from the magneto to the throttle kill switch and measured the resistance from the magneto lug to ground. It was less than half an ohm, essentially a short. The magneto is part number 695711. Am I missing something or is there an internal short in the magneto and I should bet a replacement? Thanks for any advice.

Husqvarna man makes a good point. While an internal short in the magneto primary would certainly make it not work, there are other things that can go wrong internally. If the flywheel magnet is in place and is strong, and the magneto is positioned close enough to the flywheel and if the ground (earth) kill wires are disconnected there should be a spark when cranked. If not, replace the magneto. I agree and ordered a new magneto.

The wire you are testing is only the earth cut out for the unit, dissconnect the wire up at the unit itself, test for a spark, you can do all the test you like, but if it does not now spark its giong to be a replacment unit
