I've solved this so if it helps, here's what I did. I removed the back -lots of screws- to allow access the drum. I tipped the machine on its face and unscrewed the access panel that lets you get to the drive wheel. After feeding the belt around the drum from the top, I reached into the access panel and pulled the belt over the pulley wheel (needs a bit of wellie). Simples.
