How can I unlock the door of my Hotpoint Aquarius WMF 760?

Could anyone please advise me how to open the door of my Hotpoint Aquarius WMF 760 washing machine? It has washed the clothes and finished the cycle ok, but the key symbol is unlit and the door remains locked. I have tried in vain to get the clothes out. Please help!!!
