the black sludge is a build up and when u open your washing machine it will smell the answer is to wipe all of the inside of ur machine drum and seal in white vinegar bought from any supermarket and put on a wash 90 degrees or highest wash add white vinegar to powder draw and do the cycle without clothes repeat every 30 to 40 washes
