Why does Veritas 8 alarm activate when we have mains power failure?

We have suffered over recent months with mains power failures in our local area which have caused the alarm to activate (usually in the middle of the night which doesn't impress our neighbours!!). Entering the code and pressing reset doesn't stop it sounding and we have to go through the long convoluted process of resetting which has been explained in an earlier thread on this site. I would have thought that a power failure shouldn't affect the alarm, as the back up battery power supply should kick in. Does the battery need replacing or is it another fault which somebody recognises?

alarms systems run of the mains supply with a standy battery for back up,if the system is not serviced, you can get a dead cell in the battery and that means if you get a power cut then then bell box s.a.b will go into alarm as it see,s it as an attack on the system, the control panel sends a electronic hand shake to the bell box,as long as it recieves the 12volts back,it will not sound the bell or siren, batteries have a life expectancy of five years,so if your system is older then replace the battery with same type that was fitted by your alarm company, hope this is of help.charles maguire,G T S
