How can I get rid of the STOP on my Whirlpool oven?

The Whirlpool oven in my Barratt apartment was switched off by my previous tenant.I have now tried to turn it back on but all it will display is STOP, I've turned the knobs every which way and pushed the middle button in till I'm blue in the face.What can I do?
