is it possible to buy and install a home alarm system by following the instruction manual

nigel is right, but the small amout the companies give is not worth a candle, they prefere if your system is monitored, thats where the real savings come, and by the way,the police will not respond to an alarm system unless it is monitored, they are fed up with false alarms generated by systems fitted by users and electrical contractors that dont follow all the guide lines,in scotland anyway, where we are based

a tip for you,do a really good survey of your home before you invest in an alarm system, how easy will it be for you to run cables, can you get access under the floor, can you get the bell wire outside ,and you dont need to spead pir,s around like confetti, just monitor the key points, this will save you a lot of money, and time and if you can avoid numerous units on one zone, unless you use a seven wire connection,if you use six you wont know what unit tripped the alarm, the radio system are very good, each unit is battery operated, you have a mains feed to the control panel, scantronic have a system i.on that has a wire free bell box, food for thought?

Yes, but your insurance company will not recognise it and give you a discount on your policy unless it is installed and maintained by a recognised alarm company
