as i was using the vac there was a bang where the cable connects to the switch assembly. I removed the switch and found two wires in connecting block had burned i renewed the block cut 2 inch piece off the cable reconected it and reassembled the switch into its housing pressed the yellow on switch down vac did not start could switch be damaged

Possibly - but more likely to be that the the bang was the result of a short and the fuse in the plug has blown - you do not mention the fuse.
