Faulty Scantronic 9800 main control panel?

I have a 1992 (year) Scantronic 9800 main panel & remote.
It has been very reliable.
Last week it lost mains 230V supply & for some reason it went into full alarm, it should not have done. I have since replaced the battery.
But now it can not detect the main entry / exit door magnetic sensor change of state and also programmable output number 2 is permanently on - this turns outside lights on via a relay.
Most if not all the other functions seem to be OK.
I have reset the NVM chip but this has made no difference.
Is the panel faulty or do you think I am missing something?
If I have to replace the main control panel what would be best as closest in physical size of the main panel & wiring connections in similar locations - i.e. down the left hand side of the main panel PCB. It may be an opportunity to upgrade to a new control panel & remote keypad, but I still need most of the functions of the 9800. A few extra zones would be useful though.
Thanks.
Dave.

Hello Nick.
I have ordered a 9800+ PCB which I am told (by Scantronic) is a direct replacement including connections.
I will give the old PCB one last go before swapping over & if I get it working will keep the 9800+ PCB as a spare.
If I can not get the old one working, then yes you can have the PCB if you wish. I will let you know.
Most posts are saying it is the set up / programming - but I am not convinced - I think it could be faulty?
Regards
Dave

Hi Dave, what a waste of a 9800, if you do decide to change it, may i please have it, as i have many customers with them and a spare panel would be good news. All im going to say is that you have missed something, Did you put the NVM chip back in the right way etc. I know the 9800 inside out, and unless its dead, youve done something wrong.

Nick

Thank you all for the replies, very much appreciated.
I have the manuals, installation & operation and understand them. Whilst I am not a professional alarm installer I am an electrical engineer and do have an understanding of the system & electronics. I installed the system in 1993 & it has been very reliable - until now.
The problems occured after the power failure and a dud battery which was replaced. I tried various tests and levels of reset eventually ending up (admittedly in some degree of desparation!) with the NVM reset.
Thanks very much for the offer of help Nick, I can & have reprogrammed the panel, but it is still not working correctly.
Pleased to hear though that it is regarded as a good reliable panel.
Sorry if considered to be too many questions in my original post, my apologies.
I will "bite the bullet" & fit a new panel & keypad.
Thanks again to all for taking the time to reply.
Regards.
Dave.

Dave give me a call, and i will talk you through how to re-programme the panel.
Taking out the NVM chip as Acorn rightly says has created you an additional problem.

your keypad will show sr,total power failure, you will require to reprogramme the panel,if you dont have the engineering manual, you got a problem, without knowing all the parameters of your system, then any advice as to reprg would be of no use to you,i have used this panel for a very long time,i have fitted over a thousand of them,in my humble opinion best panel scantronic made,

Why did you reset the NVM? There was, (& usually), no reason to do that?

Your problem was the battery, it's now the reprogramming that you've had to do, you have reprogrammed haven't you?

If you don't have & fully understand the programming manual, you're on a hiding to nothing.

Too many variables for a Q&A Forum(?)
