s reg vauxhall astra how to fix speedometer?

my speedometer had been stopping and starting..but now it has stopped working altogether. recently had it in for m.o.t. and had mentioned it then but problem could not be found..any ideas?
I am a woman that will try to rectify the problem herself

if digital, could be sensor, if cable, then might need replacing. if these are ok, get replacement one cheap from good scrappy.
