Intermittent Scantronic 9827 keypad?

I have a 9800 alarm system but the 9827 keypad does not always accept the security code. Most times it works fine but last night I had to enter it four times before it was accepted by which time it had set off the alarm. The system is professionally maintained and the engineers says there is nothing wrong with it. Any ideas?

clean off all marks with white spirit,or meths, and apply the solution the the brush supplied, allow to dry, reasemble the keypad, and as the other guys said, try and not use duplicate numbers, and one more thing, very important, the keypad is not intended to test the strenth of your fingers, try not to press too hard,!!!!!

the fault is caused by wear of the carbon face on the keypad and pc board, the same thing occurs on tv remotes, you can repair the pad with a kit from r.s componets, this allows you to recoat the membrane and the pc board

it is quite common for the scantronic keypad to wear like this, i have spent time trying all sorts of cleaning and have to say with little success, my advice if you do not want to pay out for a new keypad is to change your user code excluding all numbers currently being used.

...., and keep away from double digits, 1922, 1484 etc etc, change ALL four.

Sounds like a sticky key on the membrane.
Try to clean it out without using water obviously.
Or find out the sticky number and then change your code to not include that digit.
Otherwise its a new keypad.

This is probably why your engineer says it works ( in principle) but not for you. Print this off and show him on the next visit, see what he says!
