when i started my picasso this morning i got a squealing noise i presume from the engine. when i pull away it is loud and i noticed that when i changed gear it sometimes quieten down.
this is loud noise but not as loud as a water pump squeal if that makes sense.
are all pulleys ok and no excess play in them, if all ok is tensioner secure and alternator bolts in place [have known bolts to be missing on other vehicles there by reducing tension on belt] have a good look to ensure they are all ok.

would this still be able to slip even though it has a spring loaded adjuster.

sounds like belt slipping as bob said,if it is it will be worse when under heavy electrical load-headlights,HRW,heater switched on.

someone has just mentioned to me it could be a pully do you think this could be an idea or is it def the alternator belt slipping.
