Whats the best way to relase and tighten the tensioner?

Hi, whats the best way to release and tighten the tensioner on the timing belt of a 1993 Vauxhall Cavalier
Barry, August 2010
P.S. This is the alternator belt I was describing,so hope there's no confusion.

Get a long (10")15mm ring spanner, put the ring end on to the tensioner bolt and push towards the back of the car. Push far enough and the tension is easily released. The tensioner is spring loaded and will automatically tension the belt when you ease the spanner back. This applies to the 94 1800i Club, other engines may differ.

not sure if its the same as the 1800cc Automatic Cavalier, i took the off-side wheel off, removed the inner wheel arch cover, removed bottom cover and this allowed me to put a small crowbar in and pulled tensioner back, while allowing my helper to place belt in right position(using marks on belt).this was on a transverse engine. (mind your knuckles), Good Luck.
