Renault Megane cabriolet Stuck Passenger window?

The Electric window is stuck in the fully open position, and will not budge, I have checked all the fuses and still nothing, when I operate the button to close it, there is not any noise that the motor is running to close it, any ideas?

Hi have 56 place megane cc had problems with my windows, hubby took door cards off and cleaned regulators so windows worked. Now have prob with back window, won't go down so can't get roof down and I want to sell car on but obviously can't if roof isn't working. Any suggestions?

Great help thanks!
Easiest way to get your window to go back up when it is stuck down is as follows:

1.Remove earth connector from, battery (black)
2.Reconnect earth to battery
3.Double-lock car (2 presses of lock button)
(window will rise by an inch or so)
4.Unlock car
5.Repeat processes 1-4 until window is fully up

Colville from Nottingham, April 2013
Thats good advice. If the window is sticking but the motor still sounds the problem is normally the module! Relatively cheap to buy (compared to replacing the whole regulator) and fairly easy to fit yourself!

Jim Armstrong, February 2013
my sons 04 megane passeger window stuck down just in time for a heavy snowfall 10.02.2013 had to trap plastic cover in door overnight, just tried fuse removal (glove box) both 25amp + 40amp then used deadlock twice after removing speaker cover just to see if i could see anything obvious, looks like previous owner had same problem as relay seems to be wrapped in plastic bag albeit very wet definate water ingress. This worked for me hope you have same luck Its up now but not attempting to use again until weather warms up, advice to son sell sell sell!!!

Have 54 Megane cabriolet that I bought at 3 years old - 18 mths after I had it replaced the regulator,Called RAC who wound the window back up(taking an hour pulling the back inside of the car out).

Last year, the new one stopped working put it down to the fitter not being a renault expert.

So my freelance Renault mechanic did a temporary fix for nothing but still an issue so i just left it as it did not work or impact roof coming down and was extra expense.

The other day whilst putting the roof back up the rear passenger window chose to kick into action- RAC to the rescue again just before it rained! Am now replacing for a second time - I don't see how this part can be so complicated.

So best part of a grand on windows - still like the car its just a pain and inconvenient.

I don't see there being a solution other than pressuring Renault to improve their replacements parts.

Ayesha, July 2012
hi had this problem with the rear passenger window it opened and would not close (megane covertable) what worked for me was sat in drivers seat locked and unlocked doors a few times pressed the window switch and window closed

mike, March 2012
The fuse in fuse out method works a treat.

Chris, March 2012
My back drivers window is stuck again, I put it down to my car leaking in water over the last year before it was fixed properly and the water getting into the motor, it did this before Xmas and I tried for ages to get it down and it wouldn't budge but when I went to the dealers the man got it to go down straight away but now three month later it's stuck again. Can't hear any noise when trying to put it down and it won't go down when I press the button for all the windows to go down. Hopefully they can fix it tomorrow when its in the
garage. Was going to try banging the inside panel like someone suggested but I'm scared incase it works then the garage say there's nothing wrong with it tomorrow xx

Nickla, March 2012
Same thing has just happened to my car been to renault today renault are doing a contribution towards these repairs for window regulators as its a known fault with renault paying part your cost could be 149 per window but we thought it would be ok but the wire on mine on regulator has come off and this is not covered under the renault repair but the motor if seized or corroded is might be worth a wee talk to your local renault dealer who should be doing this , just to tell you went to the parts dept and the regulator for pass front window to buy is £249.00and they want £200 to fit it , hope this is a help to you .only if your car is under 7 years old will you get the repair reduced by 60 or 70 % my car came into the category just the cable doesnt meet the required criteria .looks like i will be out £500 pound plus for 2 regulators.

just got our car back from gordon lamb at chesterfield, had new window regulator. took 4 hours as back seats had to come out but only paid 25% of total bill which was £100 so well pleased.

My back left window got stuck down on friday, wouldnt come up or make noise..54plate megane convi... Garages everything closed over weekend, had to board it up and rain soaked it through. Came across this website and everyones comments very helpful. Called renault customer service, very polite and helpful, offered 75% off if its regulator fail but warned that there is 3-4month wait for parts as they get it from japan n have huge backlog.. Anyways they took it in for inspection, took 2days for diagnosis as i had othr issues.. Turned out it was regulator BUT luckily they had 1 peice in stock fir my car! Cost was £629 but i only paid £140 :) they also did free health check and washed car for free.. Staff all very polite and got back to me straight away! No pressure was applied to fix things highlighted in health check.. But yeah defo call the customer service manager first!

T East London, June 2011
just phoned renault customer care about rear passenger window sticking on our megane convertible, they were very helpful and said because they know about the problem and the car is under 7 years old they would arrange for us to take it to main dealer and they would pay 75% of cost. i only found out about this by coming on this site so thank you very much. i will update later when we get it fixed

we have 2 cabrios with the same problem. Our mechanic says he looks after a fleet of them all with the same problem. Hope Renault Ireland have the same 75% policy.
Mine stuck down during a thunderstorm so i sealed it up with plastic and duct tape and it worked in the morning just long enough to go fully up where it has remained. As we speak my husband is out systematically trying out all the above advice starting with thumping the door panel. will let you know if it works.

Lisa, April 2011
the fuse out/in solution worked for me - thanks!

Simon, April 2011
Hi
Same happened to me rear passenger window.
Double Lock Car.
Take (40) window fuses out.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
Put fuse back in.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
(Window raises by about 2 inches. Repeat several times)
It is fiddly but a good temporary solution

Michelle, March 2011
Found forum extremely informative and in fact deadlocking the doors was enough to get the window to close .

Hopkin Rees, March 2011
Tryed everything on here with no joy, simply left engine running and pulled window fuse in and out until window worked again only took 3 attempts.

2005 Megane convertible. My window went down while driving along yesterday. This was followed by smoke then fire from below the window. Fire brigade put the fire out and disconnected the battery. We had to get relayed home. Attempting to get in touch with Renault today.

Put the passenger side window down this morning and it wouldnt go back up...drivers already broken - wont go down at all!! Followed all advice on here but nothing works :-(. Called Renault though as i had read on here and other Forums that if the car is less than 7yrs old with 100k or less they will pay 75% of cost to fix it! Quite pleased they agreed cos mine is 04 plate!! Just gotta wait 4 days with the window down before i can get it sorted :-/

Me!!, January 2011
I too called Renault on their customer service number!! They will pay 75% on the repair of windows (leaving the customer to pay around £80) IF the problem is diagnosed as the motor. If not...you will have to pay the full cost.

Thanks Robin H!

Hi, I am new here. I have just bout an 07 Grand Scenic. After 4 weeks of great driving, the windows decided to go up and down 2 inches at a time. I tried to reset the windows as per instruction and holding it for 5 seconds up but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Warranty passed by 3 months. Should I contact Renault?

noufal asif, June 2010
As a Renault owner I am well aware of the issues with windows failing usually resulting on the windows going down on there own! This happened to me resulting in the RAC coming out to eventually getting it back up!It is the control regulator that fails not the motor itself. My car is a 2005 megane out of guarantee and not purchased from a main dealer.I suggest you call Renault customer service 0800 0723372.I did and they were brilliant booked the car in to my local dealer and paid 75% of the cost.Cost me £51.00 for the whole mechanism to be replaced and the car came back valeted from the dealer. Can't praise them highly enough and I think they know they have a problem as they offered this without any problems. My experience of them was first class,so if you have a window problem I suggest you call them. You have nothing to lose, its even a free phone call !!

Robin H., May 2010
Had renault scenic 2004 both passenger window regulators went within 2 months of each other. Had first fixed then contacted Renault UK when 2nd went. They now admit there is a fault and pay 75% costs. Glad i phoned them.

Lorraine, May 2010
Thank you thank you thank you.

Had drivers side window problem. It went down after someone opened a door at the same time as someone tried to lock it I think it confussed the car as well as me!

Took previous advice:
Double Lock Car.
Take top 25A window fuse out.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
Put fuse back in.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
(Window raises by about 2 inches. Repeat several times).

Took about 7 times for me. Window up. Will be complaining to Renault as it seems this is not a new issue & i think I'm still covered by waranty.

Thank heavens for howtomendit.com & you helpful souls as on a Bank Holiday weekend the garages are all empty!

arrowhouse, May 2010
tried diconnection of the battery it worked fine on the 03 megan but on our convertable 04 the rear drivers window just stayed down. you can hear a faint ticking noise commin from the window . even still the 03 window packed up in the end and had to be propped up until we could get the regulator for the window. now just need to sort out this convertable. i will not buy megan again. and im selling both soddin cars

Just had a problem when double locking the Renault Megane 3dr Hatch 2005. Rear Driver side window opened by itself. Fuse removal methods didn't work. Used Steve's Method - Disconnect Battery, reconnect and Double Lock a few times, and window finally fully closed. Also had whistling from rear (but has happened a few times when dbl Locking). This time I left it and after about a minute the whistling just died out. Car was still locked OK. Many thanks for all your help here!

Would like to say thankyou to the forum, I own a 2005 3dr hatch renault megane, Passenger window opened by itself after locking the car, electric window would not responed to the controls on either door used the following sequence .

my system was:

Double Lock Car.
Take two 25A window fuses out.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
Put fuses back in.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
(Window raises by about 2 inches. Repeat several times).

Its a bit fiddly but a bit of patience is also needed got the window closed in the end.

Ian, March 2010
Did all of he things that have been mentioned above....just remember that when double locking the car to wait a second or two before you will see the window raise an inch or so. I didnt, then dimantled the door (cutting fingers and braking clips)...gave up...tried the battery thing again and it moved. Now have a buzzing noise when double locking the car,,,can anyone help?

Barrie, February 2010
Hi,
I have a 3 door 05 Renault Megane.
I've actually two problems - one being the stuck driver window. Fortunately it is up but I need it to work the way it should.
Is the only way to fix this by going to Renault & stumping up a terrible fee?

Karen, February 2010
Thank you for the advice. Megane 5-dr (55 plate) passenger window stuck down.

Double locking the car, the window returned to the closed position.

Dave Usher, February 2010
Thankyou very much for your very valuable advice. Window stuck in blizzard at 10.50pm and it worked. Thankyou thankyou thankyou

Nicola, February 2010
First can i just say how HUGELY grateful i am to this forum - for this problem & others solved in the past.

Came out this morning (Saturday) & found that my 55 reg Megane hatchback had the driver's window stuck down. Have had a prob with water leaking in through that window, so obviously it's connected to that. Fearing being unable to leave it anywhere all weekend & an expensive trip to the garage on Monday, I was delighted to find a way to get it closed.

I used Aidan's approach - but found it worked with just the top (as you look at the bank of fuses) 25A fuse being taken in & put back, - which was a help, as that was the most fiddly bit.

So my system was:

Double Lock Car.
Take top 25A window fuse out.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
Put fuse back in.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
(Window raises by about 2 inches. Repeat several times).

Am now looking to sell it a bit sooner than planned, as it'll be a pain in carparks having to get out for the ticket each time!

Anyone want to buy a Megane?? (Suspect I'm probably asking in the wrong place, given the fact we all have had problems with ours!!)

Adrian, February 2010
I have recently had a similar issue with my 'Megane sport 2004' where the boot wouldn't open, A word of warning, DO NOT JUMP START A RENAULT MEGANE! This will unsettle the UCH (essentially the on board computer) A new one has just cost me £350. Unfortunately they only realised this after me spending a further £200 on investigating the problem. If you have jump started your car recently perhaps this is the cause. Good luck. Perhaps a Honda would be a better option next time.

TRICKY, January 2010
Hi guys I have a 2005 Megane. My rear drivers side window wasn't working after a big snow we had here. Then yesterday as I locked the car it just opened. I read this forum and found the easiest way to get it closed was to:
Turn car off.
Disconnect battery, black terminal. (Engine makes a squealing noise)
Reconnect battery. (More squealing)
Lock the car repeatedly until the window went up a bit.
Repeat until fully closed.

My clumsy hands wouldn't allow me to use the "remove the fuses" method.

Thanks for all the help on this forum. I really appreciate it. Hope this can help someone else.

Steve, January 2010
Hi your problem is most likely to be the motor module which you can not buy seperately it comes complete with motor. Labour to do the job should cost no more than £60 parts may vary ebay £85 tel.07789 569 359 Warrington,Cheshire Area

Auto Electrician, January 2010
My driver window motor has gone and Renault have said as long as car is less than 4 years old it should be free to fix as they are aware of the problem.

Lisa T, October 2009
Hi, I had the same problem, taking the fuse out and dead locking the car worked...sort of, I followed the following instructions when the rear drivers door went down of its own accord and would not go back up.

Open car.
Start Car.
Turn Off.
Take rear window fuse out.
Double lock car.
Open car.
Put fuse in.
Start Car.
Turn off Car.
Double lock Car
(The window went up an inch or two)

I repeated the above about 10 times until it was all the way up. Then I disconnected the connector for the window motor so it would not happen again. Our car was a renault megan 2003

Renault scenic both my front drivers door and rear drivers side door windows have dropped both being propped up with rubber door wedges 2 for 75 pence at Asda, Renault want £350 per door for new units

paul, September 2009
I had the same window problem with left rear window, driving along one day and it let itself down!!! And stayed down. It was in and out of dealer garage a number of times and yes, the problem is a water leak, but apparently into the looming wires underneath the floor. It took them ages and many times to try and fix it. Replacing would have been thousands to do so I agreed to repair. They never could identify the point of water leaking. Am now trying to sell the car.

EC, September 2009
The car has a computer called the UCH (Unite de Command d'habitacle) that is mounted in the glove compartment and is used to control the security, windows and air con amongst other things. If the window opens or closes in short burts it is likley that it is this device that is causing the problem. The window motors appear to be steeper motors and they need a supply and earth, a set of direction reversing switches (door switches) and a pulsed signal from the UCH to make the motor step to its next position. If the pulses are missing the motor will step once. Unfortunately, you have to get the UCH replaced by the main dealer and it is likley to cost around £350. If it is the UCH the advice given by Keith will work. PS don't blame french wiring and electronics for this the UCH is made by Siemens of Germany!

Stuart, August 2009
You Will find there is water ingression on regulator and wiring if lucky wd 40 should do the trick.(door pannel hard to remove be carefull lifts up do no pull, screw in middle behind fabric part lift up and over) Also check door wiring loom conectors and use contact grease. A tell for this is speaker looses sound or distorts. I can do job for £50. 01925415275 Warrington Cheshire

Hi All,

I have a 2004 Espace - and my eldest son rolled the window down while we were pootling around town - and when we got back home, it refused to close. I followed Keith's instructions, and it closed happily. So many thanks to Keith and anyone else who has spent time working this one out ... I would never have worked it out on my own.

Nick, July 2009
do not buy renault megane's 03 to 05 plates, windows will all fail and renault will sting you £320 for each... thats £1280 for a car that will be worth about 3000 quid!!!! i have written to watchdog to warn people about this!! DONT BUY FRENCH!!!!!!!

LARRY, June 2009
I have been on the phone to Renault after my car being in another garage regrding the passengewr window being stuck, and opening when car unattended etc. My car is a 55 plate and now outwith the warranty but Renault, know that these cars have problems and they will pay for a new window regulator. So everyone get onto there nearest Renault dealer now regarding your Megane x

Carole, March 2009
Double locked the car one night, and the driver window immediately let itself down. Walter's instructions (below) didn't work for me. I followed Keith's instructions, but eventually shortened it to (While seat in the car throughout):

Double Lock Car.
Take both 25A window fuses out.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
Put both fuses back in.
Open Car.
Double Lock Car.
(Window raises by about 2 inches. Repeat several times).

This is obviously a temporary fix. Haven't attempted to troubleshoot further yet.

Aidan, February 2009
if you have a megane just get rid of it by any means possible they are nothing but trouble i should know ive hat two silly me

duggie, January 2009
my renault megane front passenger window did this so we took the moto out and wound it up by hand after a few months the drivers one did the same so now we have no working windows

Hi I have the same problem the taking the fuse out and dead locking the car worked, you DON'T NEED TO TAKE ANY PANELS OFF. I have to use the cars anti theft device to close the window. the way i did it.
Open car.
Start Car.
Turn Off.
Take rear window fuse out.
Double lock car.
Open car.
Put fuse in.
Start Car.
Turn off Car.
Double lock Car

Hi - My two back windows in my 97 cabriolet just did this - i am off to the local garage now (renault garage let the phone ring off 7 times - so not going there!)... will let you know cost and reason...

brayley pearce, August 2007
apparently its the module on the side of the window regulator has water ingress into unit then the windows will go down and never come back up and they cost a mint still trying to find two motors for my 04 megane

slumpytech, July 2007
Just happened to me as well - had Renault Assistance out. Apparently its a problem with the 'brain' in the car. Anyway to get the window back up, you need to disconnect the positive terminal on the battery, reconnect it, and then using the key unlock the car, and then keep hitting the lock button until the window rises a couple of inches. Keep repeating until window is up. You need to pull the window fuses to stop it from dropping again.
Once its up, dump it in your nearest renault garage and complain

Walter, April 2007
Hi Tony. Did you get this sorted. (i'm assumming you did by now) It's just that i have had the same thing happen to me only it's the drivers window. any clues?? bloke29@hotmail.com
