Mileage Correction?

Hi my speedo stopped working and I was told how to fix it by replacing the cluster to a second hand one with the same mileage! But I replaced the cluster with a second hand one and when I plugged it in to my car the mileage showed 40,000 miles more than my original mileage, how can I change the mileage back to the original mileage! please help. Regards Alan.

on some motors it is controlled by the ecu and therefore cannot be changed unless the correct machine is plugged in,you failed to give details of your motor

do not think you can correct mileage, this is to stop crooked dealers/car sellers "clocking" cars, because the lower the mileage the more they can get for the car. if you make a note of the date and mileage at the time of change and keep the reciept, this might help if you sell the car at a later date.

hope it helps, August 2010
Depending on the Make/Model & Year and you fail to mention this!!! some can be altered via the diagnostic socket with the correct software and cable setup
