power cuts out?

My push lawnmower with tecumseh engine starts with no problem, but after 5 seconds or so the power cuts out. What does this mean??

check the oil,if it smells like gas than you are losing compression. The gas is now going into the crankcase.(this is dangerous) You need to replace the rings.
