petrol consumption mark3 mondeo?

I have a 1800 petrol engine fitted to a ghia mondeo estate. Acccording to the computer its getting 31mpg. Is this usual? How do I reset the petrol computer for each run ior is this not possible?

sorry, forgot to say, to reset each one individually push and hold the small button on the dash adjacent to this display, after a couple of seconds it reverts to zero.

Don't know if it's similar but on my 2L zetec estate, try pushing briefly (towards the steering column)on the end of the indicator stalk, the dash display(left side) should be scrolling through each reading such as mpg, average speed done, outside temperature, remaining mileage left in tank etc etc, each one of these comes up for every touch of the multi-function stalk. Mine does 46 mpg on a 200 mile motorway run.Hope this helps with your model.

fuel computers normally can be set-up to give fuel usage for a trip you are going to make, so you can see how much you are using, but mpg will depend on your driving style, and if you are stop/starting around town or on motorway at a constant speed and what load your car is carrying. wear & tear will cause some loss of mpg, but if you give it a bit of tlc, i.e regular service, tyre pressures correct, pull away steady (not like jenson button) this all helps to get a bit more mpg.

hope it helps, August 2010
