I've just bought at an auction a westwood 1800 ride on mower 1999 Briggs engine when turning over it backfires back through the carb are just runs rough help is needed

I had same problem. Found that the plug was cracked. New one solved it. Don't know why!

Hi, it sounds to me that the inlet valve may be sticking or not seating properly cauing gases to blow back through the carb under compression. Either compression test engine or remove the cylinder head to check for sticking or poor seating. Free off or clean accordingly. Hope this helps
