Replacing cable?

I have a Mountfield SP480T lawnmower, the drive cable has snapped and I want to replace it but a) I can't seem to get the old one off?
b)I'm having trouble finding a new one for that particular mower

Any ideas gladly received.
I garden for several elderly ladies and its killing me pushing that lawnmower up hill

All Mountfield agents will be able to supply a replacement part- it's a common machine with a common problem.

The ols cable is attached to the gearbox via a bracket with a slot cut in it for the two plasrtic retractable legs of the fixing to spring into. You need to compress the plastic legs to withdraw it.
