changing drive belt -honda IZY 21"?

I have removed the blade. I have the belt on the crank pulley. I know that the rear pulley wheel housing pulls forward to assist in putting the belt onto the rear pulley wheel. I just cannot get the belt over. Is there an easy way?

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS on any belt drive work disconnect the spark plug HT lead to prevent the engine `trying to start` (firing) when the kick from the blade could amputate fingers or worse

This is for the Izy 16"

1. Rotate mower - first on to its side (exhaust side first - if you do it the other side first you may get oil into the carburettor) then completely upside down. You may need to loosen and fold the handle to do this.

2. Take the new belt and fit over blade and onto the narrowest part of the engine shaft.

3. Then pass the belt through the access opening so the belt can lay near the rear axle drive pulley and gearbox.

4. Lift off the spring that tensions the axle drive system which is attached to the gearbox. Lift off spring at gearbox end.

5. With the spring removed it is possible to rotate the drive gearbox on the axle so that the belt can be fitted easily over the gearbox drive pulley.
Note: you may need to remove the 4 x M8 screws that hold the axle in place and lift the axle up to get the belt in place.

6. With the belt in place on the gearbox pulley now push the other end of the belt so that it goes on to the drive pulley below the cutting blade. Refit axle (if removed) and attach the 2 fixing plates and the 4 x M8 screws. Tighten (not over tight) the 4x M8 screws.

7. Rotate the blade by hand so that the belt is pulled into place on the engine drive pulley. The belt should now be in place, all be it a little loose.

8. Lastly refit the spring to the gearbox so that the spring can tension the belt drive system.

9. Rotate mower on its wheels again and refit the handle. The mower is now ready to be used again.

I didn't manage this myself but this is what the man who replaced mine said. "It isn't difficult, but you need extremely strong thumbs. Put the belt on the gear first and then to get the belt on turn the blade." Make sure you remove the handle and tip backwards for best access.
