Amana side by side model SZD26VW,serial # 0001250426 bought april 2000?

The ice maker water valve does not shut off completely and drips water. The water collects in the bottom of the cube bin, freezes and jams the ice dispensor. The ice maker produces cubes leading me to believe the problem is strictly a matter of the water valve not shutting off completely. I do not know any details of the valve i.e. shut-off operated how(float not likely in freezing environment)---type of valve seat(tight closure might be blocked by ice or foreign particle on seat)
I used to service and tune my auto before the "computer age". Does my ice-maker problem appear to be something a home handiman might fix? If so where could i get some guidance?thanx a lot

Hello,

You are correct in assuming that the water valve is at fault for not shutting off. Sediment gets in the valve and prevents it from closing properly. You can find the valve in the back, bottom of the fridge, probably behind a panel. Hope this helps.

I did further research(I might learn to use this pc to best advantage yet).
Popular mechanics web site has instructions"repairing an icemaker water valve.--http://www.popularmechanics.com/home_improvement/home_
improvement/1276061.html?page=1&c=y. I don't know how much of that you really need but it should get you in the right area.

I noted a number of questions about problems that sound like valve problems. Those might also check the same p.m. website.
best of luck-now i have to find my wrenches
