how do i replace a thermal fuse and thermostat?

I have a Maytag Performa PYE2300AYW and it stopped working in the middle of a run. I think I have to replace the thermal fuse and thermostat, but want to test them for continuity. My question is how do I remove them? Both parts have leads that are crimped to the wire bundles. Is there a way to open the leads up or do I have to cut the wires to remove the fuse and thermostat?
Thanks, Joe
