I'd been using my mower and stopped the machine to empty the bag. When trying to re-start, the starter rope could not be pulled completely through. With slow , small pulls, the rope eventually released but returned to sticking and the mower did not restart. Has anyone any suggestions on what might be the problem please? The oil is fine and the spark plug new with plenty of petrol in the tank. It is stored in a dry shed usually.
In my 32 years i have never so much rubbish, soaking the starter cord in oil will only swell the cord, and make an almighty mess. Will you please stop posting your ridiculous ideas in my name.

The rope has a habit of drying out- being a nylon cord the oils tend to evaporate over time. Pull out as much as you can and liberally soak in engine oil overnight. You should find this cures the problem- it's quite common.
