just bought a skoda fabia 1.4 mpi 2001, it is slightly juddery when idling but drives fine, anyway this afternoon went to start it and it started but then stalled, and started again but sounded rough, drove home ok and turned ignition off. tried to start again, it did but sounded rough any ideas? thanks

did you get it fixed? if your car is the 8v it will have timing chain(double) with no tensioner!, im having the same problem noisy until about 15miles of driving juddery on tick over and smells a bit like fumes through heaters and the top of engine to the rear? anyone got any suggestions????

there is a common fault (if yours is 16v engine ) for the timing belt tensioners to go starts with uneven idling and gets worse till failure and resulting in a major job take timing belt cover off and check for slack timing belt before starting it again
