do i need locking nuts?

can anyone tell me if i need locking nuts to keep the wheel on or just to stop thieves

locking nuts do help to stop toerags from nicking your wheels, but as the "keys" are easy to get, and if you have alloy wheels, lock nuts are not a problem for the more determined tea-leaf, but do stop most toerags from taking your wheels.
