Why does my Citroen Xantia keep stalling ?

My 1.8 Xantia keeps stalling when I pull up anywhere, the tickover needs speeding up, but I cannot see any way of doing it. Is there something more seriously wrong with it ?

I too have a citroen Xantia, the same thing happened to me yesterday. I phoned the RAC, he told me that the speed controler had to be replaced, he removed it and it was worn down.
You are not alone with this problem.

could be the magneti marelli idle speed control motor, also known as idle speed valve,on front of carb.one and a half inch dia, black plastic, held by two torx screws, its also got some wires into a single push fit holder unclip it. can also be found on peugeot 405 about 1994-5 ish. new about 80 quid,2nd hand tenner ish, but you take the risk it works, good look,
