Fixing heater on Ford Ka - what's involved?

My 1999 Ka will no longer blow hot air, only cold.
Reading around it's been suggested that replacing the heater valve might do the trick. Does that sound like a plan? Is it difficult? I'm not at all experienced with engine repairs.
Also, the car has air con. Would I need to drain the air con system to get to the heater?

Hi, if you contact me on nige110162(at)hotmail.co.uk I'll mail you the dealer fault finding guide, as you have only cold air it might not be the heater valve, but this guide will help you to identify the faulty item, and you will not have to disturb the aircon system
