Hotpoint fridge just quit-no light no motor noise etc?

What could be wrong? Light went out, checked breakers, checked another plug now everything is warm. No motor noise or compressor noise like starting up. Turned controls on/off nothing. Just died. What could be worse case senario? About 7-9 yrs old.
