where is the thermostat on a rover 825 1999?

I want to check/change the thermostat on my Rover 825. Can anyone advise location and method for removing.

The stat on the KV6 is much harder to access than your typical car !. Facing the engine the stat is sited within the vee at the R/H side of the block (aircleaner end); look for water hoses going to it. You must remove the large black plastic acoustic cover and also the inlet manifold chamber under that, also the air cleaner box for more access. You will probably already know that these engines are renowned for headgasket/overheating failures, so suggest extreme care when tackling this job. The new stat requires use of new O rings etc. For more/full info I suggest buying the RAVE cd off a wellknown auction site for £5 or less, this carries fully detailed Rover tech manuals for all major aspects of the servicing the Rover-built KV6 engine, unlike the Haynes manual that only relates to the earlier (pre 96) Honda v6 engined 825/7s.
Hope this helps, if not look me up in Uxbridge Phone book, 01895....

follow the top radiator back to the engine, the thermostat should be in a housing there normally held on with 2 or 3 bolts/screws,should just lift out when the housing is renewed, dip it in a pan of boiling water and watch it open,if not replace with new gasket on housing and top up your coolant
