I have a Craftsman Lt1000 model 917.272672. It is a 6 speed. It will not move forward or reverse. It will run fine, but when I have it in gear and let off the clutch it dies. I did have a very strange looking pin fall off the tractor, but I don't know where it came from. Here is a link to a picture of the pin.
